Jermain Defoe has expressed his disappointment at being left out of Englands provisional Euro 2016 squad despite scoring the goals that steered Sunderland to Premier League safety. Defoe, who won the last of his 55 caps in 2013, had hoped his top-flight tally of 15 - bettered only by Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and four overseas players - was enough to earn Roy Hodgsons vote. Obviously Ive not been involved with England for quite a while and Ive always thought that getting into an England squad before a tournament is based on merit, the 33-year-old told Sky Sports News. I just feel like Ive done everything that I could do. I was so focused on trying to help Sunderland stay in the Premier League. Its only when you see things in the papers and people start talking about it - just mentioning my name about maybe getting into the squad - then I started thinking about it. Who will make cut? Roy Hodgsons England dilemma So obviously, when youre not in the squad, its a disappointment.Despite his omission, Defoe is proud of his achievements this season and has not given up on returning to the England fold at some point.Ive never retired and Ill never turn my back on England because I still believe I can score goals at that level, he said. Thats whats kept me going, and one of the reasons I came back from the MLS. Defoe (L) celebrates another Sunderland goal I just feel like Ive done everything that I could do. Alabama seems to be the clear favorite to win it all -- again. Clemson and Michigan are consensus playoff picks, but Texas A&M was a bit of a surprise. Which teams outside that group have the best chance at making a run into the playoff and winning it all? Our experts have the answer to that and more:Which team outside the CFPs top four is best equipped to win it all?Andrea Adelson: Louisville.?Louisville needs help to make it into the playoff, but the Cards have the one player who will give Alabama the biggest problem: Lamar Jackson. Nobody has found a way to truly slow him down this season -- he has more than 300 total yards in every single game and 38 total touchhdowns.dddddddddddd Let us not forget what Deshaun Watson did to Alabama in the national championship game in January. He nearly single-handedly beat the Tide. If there is one nitpick for Alabama, it is this: the Tide have not played a quarterback in the same class as Jackson this year (sorry, Chad Kelly, Trevor Knight and Josh Dobbs). They wont until the playoff. One more note to consider: If Alabama and Louisville met on a neutral field, the Cards would be a 7.5-point underdog. Michigan, Clemson and Washington would all be bigger dogs. ' ' '
