Note: Some of the following teams will be relatively untested due to the results of recent roster shuffles. Teams with an asterisk next to their names are our picks to progress through the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Season 2 open qualifiers. Change in ranking from July is noted in parentheses, unless the team is new and marked as such.North America1. *iBUYPOWER Cosmic (+2)They won RLCS. Lets see if they can keep up that form in online play until Season 2 starts in early September. iBUYPOWER have slacked some online, but as the reigning world champions, some deference must be given. If iBP can return to that LAN level whenever they need it, they are truly one of the most impressive teams in the world.2. *Kings of Urban (-1)They had an early exit in RLCS, but in the recent online tournaments they swept the competition, showing themselves especially powerful with an impressive 4-0 win over Exodus. Kings could be looking to regain their throne; lets just hope they can show these online performances on LAN. KoU is the reverse of iBUYPOWER in that they must bring their online level to LAN and then they will truly be world elite.3. *Exodus (-1)By putting up a solid RLCS performance and making the finals of the last two weeks Rocket Royale, Exodus is established as the clear third-place team. If they can keep this consistent play going, Exodus could become quite the fixture near the top of the North American power rankings.4. *Momentum (+2)Momentum is a tough case to rank this month. Their results have honestly been pretty bad: losing 2-3 to Genesis and then winning 3-0 the next night; beating Genesis 3-0 again, then losing to XDRL and Exodus twice in one week. They move up to Genesis previous spot of fourth off of Mike Quinn Lobdell Behrouzi, leaving Genesis and Mock-it NA disbanding.5. *Genesis (no change)Genesis, our fourth team from the NA side of RLCS, had a strong tournament, eliminating Mock-it EU before dropping out and still leaving themselves in a respectable spot. They have looked poor in NA online, losing twice to Momentum and XDRL. Also with the retirement of Quinn Lobdell they could be in a tough spot without their leader.6. *Formerly Known As Lucky Bounce (+2)Lucky Bounce had a tough month, though it is to be expected when a new roster comes back together. Even with tough losses across the month to Momentum, Kings and iBP, Lucky Bounce still slide in above the new boys, Literally. Lucky Bounce will have one eye behind them as they look to keep ahead of Literally and keep moving up the rankings.7. *Literally (NEW)Where was Literally last month, when we couldnt round out the power rankings? Literally literally came out of left field with a month of impressive results. Wins over Genesis and Deception (11th) leave them a solid-looking team to finish in the top eight.8. Ironhype (NEW)Ironhype is here on older results where they took games off XDRL as well as Literally. More recently they have had struggles, but with a quick style Ironhype looks on track to carve out a spot in this lower portion of the top 10.9. Chronix (NEW)This is the first team on here whose rank is based more on potential than much else. With OK results in their first week in Rocket Royale, Chronix could climb quickly; this roster looks apt to move. The question currently is: will they move up or down?10. *Deception (NEW)Deception broke into the top 10 off the back of some interesting results. After pushing Kings to a full set and causing some hardship for teams above them, Deception is our outside pick to make the RLCS League play. Whether they can finally move that little bit further and actually take the sets from top teams remains to be seen. Only time will tell.Europe1. *FlipSid3 Tactics (+1)FlipSid3 finished second in RLCS and, though theyve played with subs while they figure everything out with the possible transfer of gReazy to F3, their results havent been as bad as one might expect. Once they get their full roster we expect a squad good enough to rival any previous iterations of F3.2. *Northern Gaming (-1)Northern has enjoyed a month of strong wins over ENJOY and Cow Nose as well as a win over FlipSid3, albeit an F3 playing with subs. Now that they have picked up Philip Paschy90 Paschmeyer, Northern looks ready to attempt to usurp F3 and work toward the lofty expectations they faced before last seasons RLCS Online Finals.3. *Supersonic Avengers (+1)Supersonic Avengers beat FlipSid3 and Northern this month, yet they only move up one spot. No, we are not crazy; they also lost to two mix teams and failed to qualify for RLCS, which will haunt them and keep them at only third in our rankings.4. *ENJOY (+2)ENJOY had a good month but some poor recent results. They move up due to Mock-it EU and The Flying Dutchmen disbanding. If they want to hold onto this spot, ENJOY will have to stop dropping games and sets to mix teams and will have to step it up to compete with the big boys. Astrum and We Dem Babiez both look ready to move up and steal this spot should ENJOYs run of poor form continue.5. Aeriality (+2)Astrum is another case of filling in where The Flying Dutchmen and Mock-it EU fell. They lost to The Flying Dutchmen three times in the last week of the Dutchmens time together. Without a turn of form, expect all three of the teams currently below Aeriality to come forward and take this spot happily.6. *Astrum (NEW)Ah, the first of the new teams formed for RLCS. Astrum had a good week. In their first tournament out they overcame We Dem Babiez and FlipSid3 to make the finals of Rocket Royale, where they fell to Northern. It was still a stellar first result for a team eager to move up the rankings, and they look ready to do just that.7. We Dem Babiez (NEW)What do you take when you pull together three players too young to play in RLCS? Apparently a surprisingly good team. Having beaten Northern, Aeriality and ENJOY, We Dem Babiez could be set to absolutely destroy the Rocket League scene in the near future ... err, maybe in a couple years, that is.8. *Cow Nose (+1)Cow Nose only moves up one spot in our rankings, though they would have moved up more had We Dem Babiez and Astrum not come in so strongly to the positions above them. Confident -- though perhaps unexpected -- wins over Astrum, Aeriality and Supersonic Avengers see them looking good coming into RLCS Season 2.9. *Team Solid (NEW)Team Solid beat FlipSid3 and Cow Nose this week, though a lack of results earlier in the month as well as a disappointing time versus Northern see Solid slide comfortably into the ninth spot. They look more likely to move upward in the power rankings as opposed to a slide down.10. *Precision Z (NEW)Precision Z was an interesting team to rank. How do you rank a team that on its best day soars to the reaches above, seemingly playing as a top three team, and yet on others falls to places best left unnamed? In the last week they won three smaller weekly tournaments, and yet in Rocket Royale versus the toughest competition of the week, they were swept out of the tournament 0-9. Precision Z looks primed to soar so high, and yet they could fall even further. This is truly the most unpredictable team out there right now.Yeezy Shoes . Halifax beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-5 on the strength of two goals apiece from Nikolaj Ehlers, Matt Murphy and Brent Andrews. Jonathan Drouin also scored and had three assists while Zachary Fucale made 17 saves for the Mooseheads (16-8-0), who led 6-1 after two periods. According the Toronto Star, a knee injury will keep Sundin out of the lineup, which includes former teammates Gary Roberts, Darcy Tucker, Tie Domi and Curtis Joseph. Cheap Yeezy From China . Speaking to the Chicago Tribune at baseballs Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Boras called the former home of the Expos a "tremendous environment" for baseball. This is the first installment of a preseason series in which ESPN fantasy experts debate a pair of players who have similar fantasy values and/or average draft positions. First up, Greg Rosenstein and Tom Carpenter battle over a fantasy legend in the Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James and Milwaukee Bucks upstart Giannis Antetokounmpo.Carpenter on why Antetokounmpo should go ahead of JamesLets just get this out in the open: I have a fantasy crush on the 21-year-old Antetokounmpo. Enough so that I can type his name quickly and say his name without tripping over my tongue, like Stacey King.I think his ultimate ceiling is comparable to Kevin Garnett in his Big Ticket prime. I always did everything possible back in the day to land KG, and The Greek Freak will be no different.LeBron has a safe floor on a per-game basis, but his ceiling is shrinking each year, as he focuses on staying healthy and preparing for another deep playoff run, while leaning more on his teammates during the regular season. As for The Greek Freak, Ill grant that his floor could be dangerous for a first-round pick, but lets check out that sky-high ceiling.Consider his post-All-Star break numbers last season: 18.8 PPG, 7.2 APG, 8.6 RPG, 1.4 SPG, 1.9 BPG, 50.9 FG%.Now consider KGs numbers in his third season at age 21: 18.5 PPG, 4.2 APG, 9.6 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 1.8 BPG, 49.1 FG%.... and LeBron in his third season, at age 22: 31.4 PPG, 6.6 APG, 7.0 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 48.0 FG%.Are you giddy for Giannis yet?You can see what the youngster has in common with those fantasy legends is versatility -- the ability to score efficiently, dish, hit the glass and play defense. The key to Antetokounmpos ceiling this season will be field goal attempts per game. Garnett averaged 15.8 FGA per game during his third campaign, while James averaged 23.1 FGA per game.Twenty-three points per game is a pipe dream for Antetokounmpo; even I cant hope for that, since the Bucks ranked 22nd in pace last season. On the other hand, he averaged 14.1 FGA per game after the break, so KGs 16-plus is well within reach and could easily be passed, since last seasons Bucks scoring leader Khris Middleton is out for most of the season.Just as importantly, he is going to be the de facto point guard, since this team doesnt have anyone worthy of running an offense -- no offense to Matthew Dellavedova or Michael Carter-Williams -- so he is going to have the rock in his hands constantly. Serving in that role after the All-Star break last season, he racked up five triple-doubles (in 26 games), compared to Russell Westbrooks 10 and LeBrons two.Antetokounmpo stands a Garnett-esque 6-foot-11, 222 pounds, is able to play all five positions, and will be a matchup nightmare for every team he faces. Furthermore, that versatility helps fantasy teams, because he is eligible at SG, SF and PF, unlike James, who slots in at only SF and PF.And when you are fighting for a fantasy championship in March and April, James will be skipping random games, as he focuses on another NBA championship. Last season, he sat out four games in the last month, which means he stole 101.2 points, 27.2 dimes and 29.6 boards from you in roto games ... and one big box score per week four times in head-to-head playoffs. We should fully expect Antetokounmpo to continue playing big minuttes in every game down the stretch this season, because he is young and has missed a total of three games the past two seasons.ddddddddddddWhen it comes to fantasy drafts, I prefer targeting young players who are at the start of their career arcs with the hope they will explode and outpace their draft spots. So be bold, take Antetokounmpo in the middle of the first round over James and enjoy the fantasy crush all season long.Rosenstein on why James should go ahead of AntetokounmpoDont get me wrong, I love The Greek Freak. Milwaukees fourth-year do-everything small forward, is one of the most exciting players in the NBA. At 6-foot-11 with the ability to compete on both ends of the court at nearly every position, hes among the most unique individual talents in the sport. But hes no LeBron. The Cavaliers small forward/power forward has three more NBA titles, 10 more playoff appearances, 12 more All-Star games, four more regular season MVPs... I could go on and on about his career accomplishments. Hes a guaranteed Hall of Famer and will likely finish as one of the top five players of all-time.However when dealing with just this season, Id still side with the King.Part of the reason, in fact, is consistency. I know exactly what Im going to get from him. If you take out his rookie season in 2003-04 -- still a very strong year at age 20 -- he has never averaged less than 25 points, six rebounds, six assists or 1.4 steals a game in 12 years. Hes also never shot under 69 percent from the line, 30 percent from 3-point range or 47 percent from the field. Again, this is when hes at his worst, and oftentimes hes much higher in these respective categories. Is there any real reason to think any of that will change in 2016-17? Antetokounmpo, in contrast, had a career-year last season, averaging 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.2 steals a contest. Thats cute. It would also constitute as LeBrons worst season ever.I think the biggest argument you can make for the Greek Freak is his versatility. If you draft him early, you can plug him in at one of three positions. Thats a big deal. But it also means hes going to be handling the ball more outside the arc running the offense and is likely to be further away from the rim more than ever before. This means a worse shooting percentage. According to NBAMiner.com, Antetokounmpo shot 60.5 percent from less than eight feet (66.37 percent of his shots) and only 29.7 from more than eight feet (33.63 percent of his shots). His attempts from further away are likely to increase in this new role. The loss of Khris Middleton should increase Antetokounmpos usage percentage, but keep in mind Middleton was one of the only above-average 3-point shooters on the team. Spacing will be an issue for the Bucks in 2016-17, forcing players like Giannis to take bad shots.LeBron, once again, will be LeBron. Few players in the game can match his combination of scoring, distributing, and rebounding. While Giannis is an extremely promising player, at this point were still just hoping he takes that next step. James took that step more than a decade ago and has remained at that elite level, and Id take that any day of the week. ' ' '
