Former Richmond captain and president Neville Crowe has died after a long illness. He was 79.Crowe served the Tigers in a variety of roles, with current president Peggy ONeal paying tribute to his lifelong passion and commitment to the AFL club.He was a Jack Dyer medallist, life member, Hall of Fame member and former president, ONeal said following his death on Friday. His commitment to the Save Our Skins campaign epitomised his love of this football club and we are both honoured and indebted that he is such an important part of our history.Richmond was drowning in debt by the end of the 1980s and in real danger of folding until the Save Our Skins campaign of 1990.An advertising campaign, rally and exhibition match overseen by Crowe in his fourth year as club president mobilised the Tiger Army, averting the unthinkable.Crowes unbreakable connection with Richmond began in 1957 when he played the first match of what would be a 150-game career at Punt Road.He captained the side from 1963 to 1966, took out the best-and-fairest award three times and represented Victoria on nine occasions. His playing days ended in controversy when suspended for four matches for an incident during the 1967 semi-final against Carlton.Crowe would miss the Tigers grand final win over Geelong but footage of the incident - inadmissible as evidence at the time - showed Crowe didnt make contact with Blues ruckman John Nicholls. He took over as president of the club in 1987 and stepped aside in 1993 having seen the Tigers through one of the darkest periods in the clubs history. MANCHESTER, England -- Anthony Crollas promoter Eddie Hearn is confident the Briton will get a rematch with Jorge Linares in 2017.Crolla (31-5-3, 13 KOs) lost his WBA world lightweight title to Linares by a unanimous points decision in a fight to decide the best in the division on Saturday.Linares (41-3, 27 KOs) ended a lay-off of nearly a year, due to a fractured right hand that needed surgery, to out-point the Briton 115-114, 117-111 and 115-113 at the Manchester Arena. The Venezuelan also earned the WBC Diamond and Ring magazine belts for going 12 rounds for the first time in his career in a close contest. And Hearn is hopeful that Linares, who stopped Kevin Mitchell in London last year, will return to Britain next year.Sometimes a loss in this sport at the highest level is not the end of the world and Anthony will be back to try and win those belts back in the early part of next year, Hearn said.Jorge Linares will get a lot of money for the rematch and Anthony will be in a bigger fight next time around. Linares experience in the back end of the fight won him the fight.Linares has hurt his hand but I would say February or March for the rematch.Linares was stripped of the WBC version of the world title due to his inactivity earlier this year and another possibility for his next fight would be to fight Montenegros Dejan Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs), who became WBC champion in his absence. But Hearn thinks Linares will opt to fight Crolla next rather than a world title unification fight.ddddddddddddIts probably the biggest fight for Linares out there and Gilberto Mendoza [the WBA president] says he will order the rematch anyway, Hearn said.Crollas work rate and energy were not deemed enough by the judges who favoured Linares slick and fast combinations on the counter attack.Crolla was hurt in the sixth round but then had a good spell in the fight before Linares decisively finished strongly in the last three rounds to ensure he got the unanimous decision. At this moment in time I would love a rematch more than any other fight in the division, said Crolla.I felt the fight was going to plan and he caught me with a a great shot in the sixth round. I felt that gave him a bit of belief.Im 29 and Im still learning, Im still trying to better myself. He was very sharp and moved his feet well. I will come back stronger.Britain now has 12 world champions following Crollas loss in his second defence of the WBA belt and he was the fourth British boxer to lose a world title fight in three weeks following Liam Smith [to Saul Alvarez], Kell Brook [to Gennady Golovkin] and Charlie Edwards [to Johnriel Casimero].Rather than it all falling apart I prefer to think British boxers are trying to turn themselves into greats rather than just world champions and youre not going to win all these fights, said Hearn.
