FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- No matter how Jordan Spieth finishes this year -- even if he successfully defends his FedEx Cup title or holes a clinching putt at the Ryder Cup -- it will forever be most remembered for his infamous collapse while leading on the back nine at the Masters.Well remember the two shots into Raes Creek on the 12th hole. Well remember him turning a 5-stroke lead into a 3-shot defeat. What we wont remember is the resilience he showed afterward.OK, so Spieth failed to win any of the three subsequent major championships. And no, he wont be named Player of the Year once again. But only three starts after losing the Masters, he bounced back for a victory at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational. Hey, its no green jacket, but it did show plenty of buoyancy. Its becoming an ongoing theme for him, one again on display here at the Barclays this week.Last year, Spieth missed the cut at this event. Granted, it wasnt here at Bethpage Black, but on Friday afternoon at Plainfield Country Club, he was slamming the trunk after rounds of 74-73 that led to a missed cut.He showed resilience by still winning the playoff title and is showing it again this week, as rounds of 71-67 have him tied for fifth, 4 shots behind 36-hole leader Patrick Reed entering the weekend.I remember being right there, and it was almost like the wheels just came off the back nine the first day, he recalled about last years Barclays. I was like, You know what? Its OK, regroup. Obviously, it didnt hurt me much for the year. I knew that an extra couple days [off], having six days before playing again, was probably good for me. I ended up missing the next cut, but I remember being OK with it there. As if only to further the theme, Spieth showed more bounce-back ability during Fridays round, as well.Starting on the Blacks devilish par-4 10th hole, he left his second shot in the greenside bunker and a difficult lie led to an opening double-bogey.It wasnt exactly the way hed envisioned starting his morning. The level of anger I got to where I want to just throw the club in the bag, he explained. But theres nothing good that necessarily comes out of it. So recognizing that and bouncing back quicker is more useful. He credited caddie Michael Greller for helping him get back into the right frame of mind on the next tee.Moments like 11 tee box are where I really credit Michael a lot for stepping in there and being a real positive voice, saying, You got really screwed on that shot; you did exactly what we wanted to do on the second shot on 10; lets find the fairway here, get into rhythm and pretend that didnt happen, Spieth continued. He said, Lets get two birdies before the turn.As it turned out, they got only one, the result of a 15-foot putt on the 18th hole. After the turn, though, Spieth added an eagle and three more birdies -- and, most impressively, there wasnt another blemish on the scorecard after that opening double.[Im] happy to go from that cut line to contention, he said with a smile afterward.Just consider it all part of an ongoing theme.
