COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State wide receiver Torrance Gibson has been suspended for the season due to a violation of the schools student code of conduct, a punishment that Urban Meyer made clear he does not agree with heading into the teams season opener on Saturday. It was not from the athletic department or football, Meyer said during his weekly news conference Monday. I disagree with it.Meyer didnt provide any details on what transpired or what, if anything, could be done about it given his opposition to the discipline. Ohio State has not commented on the nature of the violation. On Tuesday, on the Big Ten teleconference, Meyer said he doesnt believe that Gibson will transfer despite the suspension. This all just kind of happened in the last week, so were still dealing with it, Meyer said. I have had zero indication that he wants to leave. His focus is to be the best Buckeye he can possibly be.Once among the nations most coveted recruits at quarterback, Gibson shifted positions after arriving on campus last year for the Buckeyes due to a logjam on the depth chart. His dynamic athleticism and size suited wide receiver. But the transition hasnt been smooth on the field or off. The position change has given Gibson troubles at times, and he was suspended for a game during his redshirt season a year ago.The hype that surrounded his recruitment was re-energized during practices in April when Gibson capped off a productive month with six catches for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the spring game. Meyer confirmed that Gibson was in the mix for a role with the Buckeyes this fall.I would anticipate hes going to contribute this year, but I dont know that, wide receivers coach Zach Smith said earlier this month. Hes going to have to go earn it and come along where we say were comfortable putting him in the game and know he can perform to the standard that our unit is expected to have and demands. But as far as his ceiling, hes as talented as anybody Ive been around. The ceiling is extremely high.Custom Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys . The team also announced Tuesday that the Braves will wear a commemorative patch on the right sleeve during the season.
