SEPANG, Malaysia -- A furious Lewis Hamilton demanded answers from his Mercedes team after an engine failure cost him victory in Sundays Malaysian Grand Prix and severely dented his chances of winning this years Formula One drivers championship.Hamilton was leading on lap 41 of 56 at the Sepang International Circuit when his engine blew, handing the race lead and ultimately victory to Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo. It was Ricciardos first victory since the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix, leading a one-two finish with his teenage teammate Max Verstappen.More painfully, it gave Hamiltons Mercedes teammate and title rival Nico Rosberg -- who finished an impressive third -- a 23-point lead in the championship. Rosberg had to fight back from 21st place after lap one when he was the innocent party in a collision with Ferraris Sebastian Vettel. With five races left in the season, it will be difficult for Hamilton to make up the deficit to the ultra-consistent Rosberg in the championship tussle. The frustrated Hamilton was upset in the circumstances, and he hinted at perhaps more than that.My question is to Mercedes, Hamilton said. We have so many engines made for drivers, but mine are the only ones failing this year. Someone needs to give me some answers because this is not acceptable. We are fighting for the championship and only my engines are failing. It does not sit right with me.Someone doesnt want me to win this year, but I wont give up. I will keep pushing.Red Bull and Ricciardo took a lucky victory, given the circumstances that afflicted the Mercedes pair, but were in the right place to capitalize and make up for the win the Australian driver felt he was deprived of in Monaco when a team pit-stop misunderstanding cost him victory.Told you Id win one. Sometimes you just need things to swing your way, said Ricciardo, whose tears during the Australian anthem played after the race mixed freely with the copious sweat generated in the tropical conditions, which generated track temperatures consistently topping 50 degrees (122 F).Its been an interesting, I would say, two years since my last victory and it feels awesome for sure. I am so grateful for it, he said.Ricciardo delighted many fans, and disgusted quite a few others, by celebrating victory with his newly adopted tradition of pouring the celebratory champagne into his sweaty race shoe and then drinking it -- something he calls the `Shoey. Not only that, he also convinced team principal Christian Horner, plus Verstappen and Rosberg, to also drink from the unconventional vessel.Asked to comment on the flavor, Ricciardo said it had a fruity taste, but Rosberg deadpanned: I hope he does not win any more races this year.Rosberg held onto third place despite incurring a 10-second penalty for an aggressive passing move on Ferraris Kimi Raikkonen on lap 38. Raikkonen placed fourth, extending Ferraris winless streak this season.Williams driver Valtteri Bottas made a one-pit stop strategy work to take fifth place, as did Renaults Jolyon Palmer who finished tenth for his first ever points finish in F1.Force Indias Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg took sixth and eighth places respectively, separated by McLarens Fernando Alonso, who did well to finish seventh after starting the race from last on the grid. Alonsos teammate Jenson Button was ninth in his 300th grand prix start. The next race is in Japan next weekend, with Rosberg eager to press home the advantage over Hamilton in his quest for his first championship.I thought the race was all over (after the first-corner crash) so I am really happy to fight back all the way to the podium, Rosberg said. It is a good moment in general, and I look forward to the next one.Calvin Ridley Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. Traditional contenders Brazil, Greece and Turkey drew the other three spots to complete the 24-team field for this summers tournament in Spain, basketball governing body FIBA announced Saturday at its meeting in Barcelona. Brad Evans saved the United States from another deflating World Cup qualifier on the road. Jermaine Beckford tied the score in the 89th minute as the American defence again stumbled on a restart. But Evans scored an unlikely goal in the second minute of second-half stoppage time, giving the U.S. a thrilling 2-1 win over Jamaica at Kingston on Friday night that solidified the Americans chances of qualifying for next years World Cup. "It was a totally blind shot," Evans said. "The only thing in my mind was turn and shoot. That was it." Jozy Altidore scored for the second straight game, putting the Americans ahead in the 30th minute with a header off Graham Zusis cross. They had scored the first goal in four of five previous road qualifiers under coach Jurgen Klinsmann but were only 1-2-1 in those matches. It looked as if they would drop points again when an unmarked Beckford beat goalkeeper Tim Howard with a close-range header from Rodolph Austins 40-yard free kick. In wasting an early lead during a semifinal-round loss at Jamaica last September, the U.S. allowed both goals off corner kicks. But just over a minute into four minutes of stoppage time, Michael Bradley quickly played an American corner kick short to Zusi. He gave the ball right back, and Bradley faked around Alvas Powell and slid a left-footed shot to Evans. Evans had his back to the goal with Beckford, OBrian Woodbine and Daniel Gordon about 5 yards from him when he stopped the ball with his left foot. He then turned and kicked the ball with his right foot over goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts from about 8 yards, a shot that may have taken a slight deflection of the sliding Woodbine. "Pure elation after the goal, for sure," said Evans, who received a yellow card for pulling his jersey over his head. "I had no idea it was stoppage time." It was the first goal in 10 international appearances for Evans, a midfielder starting at right back. Evans got the start because Steve Cherundolo is resting after a knee injury sidelined him from December to April, and Timmy Chandler tore a left knee ligament last month. "It makes travelling a little easier," Klinsmann said. "Whats important is that this team now gets more and more the mentality to bounce back and to kind challenge themselves to win here, not to look for a tie. We said that from the beginning, we are ready now to come into a difficult place like Kingston and say we want the three points." Starting a stretch of three qualifiers in 12 days, the U.S. (2-1-1) improved to seven points in the 10-game final round of the North and Central American and Caribbean region, trailing Costa Rica (2-1-1) on goal difference and ahead off Mexico (1-0-4) on goals scored.dddddddddddd. Costa Rico won 1-0 at home against Honduras on a goal by the New York Red Bulls Roy Miller, and Mexico tied 0-0 at Panama (1-0-3), which has six points. Honduras (1-2-1) has four points and the Reggae Boyz (0-3-2) have two, with little chance of reaching next years tournament in Brazil. "We are obviously disappointed," Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore said. The Americans host Panama on Tuesday on Evans home field with the Major League Soccers Seattle Sounders, then play Honduras on June 18 at Sandy, Utah. The top three nations qualify for next years 32-nation tournament in Brazil, and the No. 4 team meets New Zealand in a playoff for another berth. "The script couldnt have been better with Brad Evans then, going out to Seattle," Klinsmann said. Coaching his 28th game since taking over from Bob Bradley in July 2011, Klinsmann started the same lineup in consecutive matches for the first time with the U.S. But three in a row wont happen. Jermaine Jones, the tough American midfielder, sustained a concussion when elbowed by Daniel Gordon during a corner-kick scramble early in the 56th minute, and Altidore walked off gingerly in the 83rd minute and pointed to his left hamstring. Zusi was given a caution for his foul 40 yards out that led to Austins free kick and Jamaicas goal, and he will be suspended Tuesday for yellow-card accumulation. Bradley nearly scored in the second minute, sending a 20-yard right-footed shot off the post to the right of Ricketts. Altidores goal came after Zusi streaked down the right side and got by Woodbine. Altidore split Gordon and Powell and beat Ricketts with a header from just inside the 6-yard box. It was the 15th goal in 58 appearances for Altidore, who combined with Zusi on the first goal in Sundays 4-3 exhibition win over Germany at Washington, D.C., Altidores first goal for the national team since November 2011. Austin hit a post to Howards right in the 39th. The U.S. had been 0-4-1 in qualifiers at The Office, as Kingstons stadium is known. "Its a very, very difficult place to come in," Klinsmann said. "They gave us a real fight." Costa Rica beat Honduras 1-0 thanks to a 25th minute goal by New York Red Bulls defender Roy Miller. The result left Honduras in fifth place, two points behind Panama, who secured a creditable home draw against Mexico. Jamaica is last in the group with just two points from five games, leaving the Reggae Boyz a mountain to climb in the remaining five qualifying matches. The next round of games is on Tuesday when Mexico hosts Costa Rica, Honduras is at home against Jamaica and Panama travels to take on the United States. ' ' '
