Michigan was a glimpse into the future of NASCAR. Kyle Larson, 24 years old, won the race, the first Cup win of his career. Chase Elliott, 20, finished second, matching the best finish of his career (set earlier this year at, where else, Michigan). Ryan Blaney, 22, finished fourth, also equaling his best career Cup Series finish.Get used to seeing a lot of those three drivers in the top five. Although Larsons win gave them a combined grand total of one win, it wouldnt surprise me to see that number grow just in the 12 remaining races this season.Allow me to take a second to pat myself on the back for having Chase Elliott as my top pick in the mid-cost level in my weekend preview article, and Kyle Larson has my honorable mention pick in that same category. They finished one-two in points. As long as Im doing that, I said to avoid Alex Bowman and Clint Bowyer in that same salary class, and they both finished with negative points. Its good to give yourself some affirmation here and there. But I wont rest on these accomplishments. Lets keep this roll going for everybodys sake this week at Darlington. Darlington is just under 1.5 miles in length, but its certainly not your standard speedway. Its egg-shaped, and one of the toughest tracks on the circuit. Numerous drivers will get into the wall, and passing will be at a premium. The series also only runs there once a year, so we dont have a prior visit this year to lean on. So Im going to pay closer attention to this weeks practices and qualifying sessions when making my picks. What am I watching for at the track known as being Too Tough to Tame? The last three races have seen a driver lead at least 196 laps. Each time, it was a different team and a different manufacturer. All also started in the top three, and although only one went on to win the race, all put up more than 110 DraftKings points.Lets start our journey to finding that driver, and putting together an overall lineup. Here are my early picks to get you started, but check back again after qualifying for my final picks and fades.Im starting my team with:Kevin Harvick: Hes one of the drivers who played a role in dominating one of the last three races at Darlington, and hes the one who converted that big day into a victory. He did that in 2014, but followed up last season with 65 points, with a very solid 34 fastest laps. Harvick is the only driver with back-to-back days over 60 points at the track.Amidst the dominance of the Joe Gibbs Racing crew this season, its actually Harvick who is your best fantasy play on average. Hes averaging 66 fantasy points per race. Kyle Busch is second at 51.Keep an eye on these fourKyle Busch: Since Kyle Busch joined Joe Gibbs Racing before the 2008 season, nobody has averaged more fantasy points, laps led or fastest laps than Busch. He won this race in 2008, finished in the top seven in six of the eight races (and 11th and 34th in the other two), and led 78 or more laps three times. As bad as his track history is at Michigan (which he confirmed Sunday), its solid at Darlington.Kyle Larson: Traditionally, momentum is a trait to be ignored in fantasy sports, but in NASCAR, a team can figure something out technologically and improve relative to the field. Not only is Larson coming off a win, but he ran 28 fastest laps at Bristol and was a threat for a high finish before winning. Throw out a road course race (not his forte) and he was sixth and fifth in the two races before that. Larson has two career starts at Darlington, and finished in the top 10 in each from the 16th and 17th starting positions.Greg Biffle: Im loving his start/finish differential lately, a combined plus-34 in the last seven races, and plus-54 in the six races he started outside the top 20. Hes not running as well overall as he has in previous years, but hes creeping lower in salary, and has finished 18th or better in the last five Darlington races, even running 13 fastest laps last season.Clint Bowyer: Bowyer didnt mince words after finishing last at Michigan, but honestly, I wouldnt either. Bowyer is a start/finish differential machine, but only when he starts outside the top 30. If he can do that, and replicate his recent finishes at Darlington, four straight between 11th and 17th, thatll be a good points day on the cheap. Custom Oilers Jersey China . Jeff Green scored 13 points and Kris Humphries 12 for the Celtics, who nearly blew an 18-point, second-half lead. Sullingers 20-20 was the first by a Celtics player since Kevin Garnetts first game in Boston in 2007. Garnett was dealt -- along with Paul Pierce -- to Brooklyn during the off-season. Darren Helm scored on Detroits sixth attempt in the shootout and then Jonas Gustavsson stopped Andrew Shaws shot, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night. CLEVELAND -- The Indians will carry two catchers and two left-handed relievers on their ALCS roster against Toronto. For its matchup with the Blue Jays, Cleveland added rookie lefty Ryan Merritt and dropped catcher Chris Gimenez, who was on the roster for the division series sweep of Boston but didnt play. Without Gimenez, Roberto Perez and Yan Gomes will handle the catching duties.Gomes has made a remarkable recovery from a broken hand sustained in September to be ready for the ALDS. He had been expected to miss up to two months, but Gomes worked his way back and said the fracture has healed enough that he can play.Gimenez and Gomes were the last two players to leave the field Thursday as the Indians worked out before Fridays series opener. Both catchers took turns throwing to third and second in what may havve been a final test to make sure Gomes was OK.ddddddddddddMerritt spent the ALDS in Arizona, where he and several other Indians pitchers threw bullpen sessions and simulated games. Merritt gives Indians manager Terry Francona a second lefty option put of the bullpen along with Andrew Miller, who shut down the Red Sox in two appearances.Merritt pitched five innings in his first major league start against Kansas City on Sept. 30. Hes gone 13-8 with a 3.79 ERA over the past two seasons at Triple-A Columbus.Indians starter Danny Salazar remains sidelined with forearm tightness. The club had hoped he might be available for the ALCS, but Francona said the right-hander isnt quite there. ' ' '
