PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Trail Blazers formally signed free agent small forward Dorell Wright and acquired centre Robin Lopez and forward Thomas Robinson in trades, sealing three of several deals the team struck last week. The Blazers got Lopez in a three-team trade with New Orleans and Sacramento that sent guard Tyreke Evans to the Pelicans and guard Greivis Vasquez to the Kings. Lopez averaged 11.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.56 blocked shots in 82 starts last season with the Pelicans. "Robin is a starting-calibrecentre coming off the best year of his career," Blazers general manager Neil Olshey said in a statement. "He fills a void at a position we made a priority this off-season, and his size, ability to protect the rim and emerging offensive game are all key elements in achieving our goal of having more of a presence in the paint on both ends of the floor this season." Portland also acquired guard Terrel Harris from the Pelicans in exchange for the draft rights to Jeff Withey, future second-round draft picks and cash. The Blazers obtained Robinson in a trade with Houston for the rights to Kostas Papnikolaou and Marko Todorovic, as well as two future second-round picks. Robinson was the fifth overall pick in last years draft by the Sacramento Kings but he was dealt to Houston in a February trade. He played in 70 total games last season, averaging 4.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 15.1 minutes. "He is an elite athlete and brings a unique set of physical tools to our roster. He has the potential to be one of the best young power forwards in the league and his development will be a priority for us," Olshey said. Robinson is expected to join the Blazers Summer League team, which opens play on Saturday in Las Vegas. Wright, a nine-year NBA veteran, averaged 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists off the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. He reportedly signed a two-year contract worth $6 million. The deal could not be completed until Wednesday under NBA rules. The Blazers on Wednesday also announced the signing of guard Allen Crabbe, the 31st pick out of California acquired by Portland in a draft night trade. Crabbe averaged 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in three seasons with the Golden Bears. Portland has scheduled a news conference for Thursday afternoon at the teams practice facility. With the exception of Lopez, who will likely start, the moves were generally lauded as adding depth to Portlands bench. The Blazers lacked depth last season when they lost their last 13 games to finish 33-49 and out of the playoffs for the second straight season. Kevin Owens knows a little something about making a strong debut. But while Owens laid out John Cena in May 2015 after less than nine months in WWEs developmental territory NXT, the man he would eventually drop the NXT title to three months later -- Finn Balor -- had to wait more than two years before making the step up.His debut was well worth the wait. The No. 5 overall draft pick for Raw, Balor -- whose NXT title reign of 292 days is the longest in history -- earned a WWE Universal Championship shot against Seth Rollins at Summerslam by pinning Roman Reigns during his debut.?Not a bad birthday gift after turning 35.Yeah, of course it was long overdue. I think everyone knows that it was long overdue, Owens told ESPN when asked about Balors first night on the main roster on July 25. But I also think in a way it was necessary for Finn to stay in NXT for as long as he did.Owens was part of a truly talent-filled NXT roster during his tenure, and the dedication of the team was on full display with each and every call-up.When Finn, myself and Hideo Itami started there, NXT was definitely on the rise, Owens said. Not just because of us, let me make that clear, but because everybody involved was working so hard, from the performers, to the coaches, to management -- Triple H, Canyon Ceman, Dusty Rhodes -- all those people working on NXT.NXT really built some momentum and became something pretty special. Then Hideo got hurt and I got called to the main roster. Neville got called up as well and he was a big part of NXT, and Sami Zayn got hurt. That couldve taken the wind out of NXTs sails a little, because at that point we were the focal point. Then within a month four of us were gone and Finn was the only one still there.dddddddddddd Without Finn, I dont know if NXT wouldve reached the level it has today. The NXT family and fans waited for Finns NXT experience to end, but week after week, Finn was the mainstay in Florida. Fandom grew, merchandise was sold and a superstar was born.Everybody there works so hard to make it into something, but you always kind of need one person to hitch your wagon to, Owens said. Finn was the guy for it. It was pretty obvious he was -- look at how big NXT has become, and now look at how Finn did on his first night on RAW.Hes gonna be in the main event of Summerslam. Thats pretty incredible. So it makes sense they kept him as long as they could -- who wouldnt want to have Finn Balor on their roster for as long as possible?Several other big names from NXT were not called up in the WWE draft, including NXT champion Samoa Joe and his Takeover Brooklyn opponent Shinsuke Nakamura. Bayley made her pay-per-view debut at WWE battleground but remains on the NXT roster and will face Asuka for the NXT Womens Championship at the Barclays Center. Many believe shes carrying the NXT torch as Finn did before her.I dont know why theyre still down there, but Im sure theres a reason for it, Owens told ESPN. To be clear, NXT is a great place to be at, you know what I mean? ... Obviously everybody aspires to be on Raw or Smackdown. Thats why they sign with WWE, because they want to be able to perform on that stage, and at Wrestlemania and Summerslam. But I was in NXT for six months and it was some of the best times Ive had in my career. I think Finn would say the same. ' ' '
